I detected an exhaust leak and traced it to the gaskets of my catalytic converter. They were completely toast and the bolts were in almost the same shape. Thanks, road salt!

Here’s the forward flange of the Cat.
The gasket is clearly in rough shape — you can even see in the middle where exhaust gas has been escaping.
When I got the rear flange apart, there clearly wasn’t much left of that gasket!
After some filing and sanding to get the flanges on the mid-pipe and down-pipe sides as nice as I could without taking them off the car, it was time for the new hardware. It’s all stainless because I believe in doing things right, not twice (if i can afford it).
It ain’t pretty, but it should seal.
I learned about that orange copper gasket-maker stuff on FSAE and it’s great for making the best of a less-than-ideal exhaust flange situation.
I hope not to have to touch these again anytime soon
