Trunk Light!

By @ 01/25/14 in Automotive, Miata

I got sick of having to use my cell phone to find things in my trunk, not a great challenge given the pint-size of said trunk. So when I found out at a local Auto-X that the Limited model of my car came with a trunk light, I took the matter into my own hands. Mazda wasn’t actively stocking that part, but I got (literally) the last trunk light bracket in a Mazda dealer’s possession in the whole country. I was on my own, therefore, in terms of wiring and light bulbs.

Ready to try! I made due with some mismatched sheet metal screws from the basement.

I spliced into the ground for the 3rd brake light and mounted a toggle switch to the bracket.

Got a light socket and bulb from an auto parts store that fits pretty damn well.

Not so elegent, but I ran power directly off the battery since it was the only continuous source of power in the trunk.

As seen here.
