Cradle is an entryway floor light designed to fit the Ligne Roset brand. It delights the user by gently bathing the entryway in a warm glow. It gradually brightens in response to the users touch. Prototyping was a major focus for this project.
I started by researching the brand, their materials, product line, and design languange. I then hand sketched concepts, which were iterated and eliminated to three. A few quick proof-of-concepts were created, and Cradle was chosen. A computer model of Cradle was then created in Alias, from which I could generate the above renderings. I also made a full-size working prototype.
The CAD model was generated in Alias 2011 and rendered using Showcase and Photoshop. The prototype's stand is made of 1/2" steel rod, which I bent, welded, and polished. The electronics inside the painted acrylic sphere are controlled by an Arduino, using code that I wrote. The presentation posters were laid out in Illustrator.
